Myjava - a region of exceptional beauty hidden in details
Myjava is a region carrying the unique atmosphere of Slovak kopanice settlements, endless meadows, scattered homesteads, and a deep connection between people and tradition. For centuries, the land beneath the White Carpathians has been a place where a distinctive culture was shaped - one known for its free spirit, diligence, and close relationship with nature. It was this kopanice way of life that created folklore still considered one of the most distinctive in Slovakia today.
One of the most beautiful and characteristic symbols of the region is the Myjava folk costume. At first glance, it captivates with its delicacy, elegance, and detailed handcraftsmanship. Its beauty lies mainly in precise embroidery, rich lacework, and delicate ornamental details. Myjava embroidery is known for its small floral motifs, plant-inspired details, and rhythmically repeated ornaments that create elegant compositions. The contrast of white and dark blue, inspired by traditional indigo print textiles, gives the patterns timelessness and purity. In the delicate lace trims, cutwork embroidery, and richly decorated sleeves, every stitch, fold, and ornament had its own place, creating a harmonious whole.

Medzinárodný folklórny festival Myjava, held every year in mid-June, is one of the most important folk festivals in Slovakia. For decades, it has celebrated traditional culture, music, craftsmanship, and folk art not only from different regions of Slovakia, but also from abroad. It has become a meeting place of traditions and a reminder of how vibrant and extraordinary folk culture can still be today.
