The time has come to make my own version of traditional filigree jewellery, but with majolica ornaments.Our traditional folk jewellery was made mainly as an ornament for costumes, mostly buckles or buttons. They were made by craftsmen with amazing filigree precision. Many pieces of jewellery were also literally filigree. This technique is very old and original and I wanted to create a piece of jewellery with a reference to this old craft. I created my first filigree Majolica earrings.

Whenever I go to do my own research on folk costumes, I am inspired not only by the embroidery but also by the environment in which the costumes were created — the beautiful nature, architecture, people, and their stories. I am fortunate that kind and willing people invite me into their homes and tell me how they found their love for folklore. And almost always, these homes have one thing in common. That common denominator is our Modra majolica. You won’t find a house without a jug or plate with a beautiful blue or colorful pattern, and this pottery is so common that almost no one notices it. Well, except me. When I saw a Modra plate proudly displayed on a special shelf or hung on a wall for the fifth house in a row, I told myself this must be a sign. Why not do something that supports such a deep tradition like Modra pottery? This pottery is one of our most precious heritages and has gone through many turbulent times over the years. I believe my Majolica collection will help people remember that our folklore doesn’t have to be only in costumes or at folklore festivals but can be a natural part of our everyday lives — whether as jewelry, or the handbag I created, or through pottery whose history dates back to the 14th century.
